HART COUNTY, Ga. — A Hartwell man is facing a felony murder charge following a months-long investigation into the death of a 15-year-old girl from a fentanyl overdose.
A Hart County grand jury returned an indictment on April 28, charging 23-year-old Jomonte Tyshawn Maxwell in connection with the teen’s death. Investigators allege the fatal overdose was a direct result of fentanyl Maxwell sold to the victim.
Deputies with the Hart County Sheriff’s Office arrested Maxwell at his home off Edgewater Lane on April 30 without incident.
Authorities say the case underscores the ongoing danger posed by fentanyl in the community. The investigation involved the Hart County Sheriff’s Office and the Northern Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office.
