Marion County Board of Commissioners abruptly announced the cancelation of Saturday night’s planned 4th of July celebration on social media. The cancellation comes after an accident injured a worker with their fireworks contractor according to a statement posted on Facebook.
Marion County and the city of Buena Vista, GA made the joint announcement with the following statement.
“It is with great disappointment that Marion County must cancel tonight’s Fourth of July fireworks celebration. Due to an unforeseen accident involving our fireworks contractor, Ghost Coast Pyro, one of their technicians was seriously injured last night. As a result, they are down a critical team member and have informed us they are unable to safely conduct tonight’s fireworks display.
The safety of everyone involved—including the public, the fireworks crew, and emergency personnel—must remain our highest priority. Because the show cannot be conducted safely, we have made the difficult decision to cancel tonight’s event.
We extend our thoughts and prayers to the injured technician and wish them a full and speedy recovery. We sincerely apologize for this unexpected cancellation and the disappointment it causes our residents and visitors. We appreciate your understanding as we put safety first.”
Due to the cancellation of Fireworks some vendors will be setting up on the Square. If you’re in the area, please come through and support them. We understand the planning and inventory that goes into an event like this and want them to have all of our support. I believe some are setting up in other areas.
