HOMER, Ga. — A woman was killed Tuesday when she drove through a stop sign and into the path of a pickup truck at Historic Homer Highway and U.S. 441/GA 15, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
Troopers said the woman was driving a Chevrolet Colorado east on Homer Highway around noon on Sept. 1 when she failed to stop at the intersection. A Ford F-150 traveling south on Hwy. 441 struck the driver’s side of the Colorado.
Banks County Fire & Emergency Services responded at 11:59 a.m. and found the woman trapped in her vehicle. Firefighters had to extricate her. She died from her injuries before emergency crews arrived, said Banks County Fire Chief Steve Nichols.
The driver of the other pickup was transported by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville in stable condition, said Nichols. As of late Monday afternoon, a State Patrol spokesperson said the woman’s family still had not been notified. Her name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
