WHITE COUNTY, Ga. — The Buzzard Mountain Fire is now fully contained, according to an update from White County Public Safety.
Public Information Officer Bryce Barrett said the U.S. Forest Service has increased containment of the wildfire to 100%, marking a major milestone after days of firefighting efforts in steep terrain and dry conditions.
Crews will remain on scene in the coming days and weeks to monitor the area and address any potential flare-ups, Barrett said.
The fire, which previously was reported at 60% containment on Tuesday, prompted a multi-agency response that included local, state and federal resources working to contain the blaze and protect nearby communities.
Despite the progress, officials warn that fire risk remains high across the region.
White County Public Safety is urging residents to avoid outdoor burning and use caution due to ongoing elevated fire danger.
Barrett said agencies appreciate the cooperation from the public and the continued work of crews who responded to the incident.
