WHITE COUNTY, Ga. — Fire crews continue working to contain the Buzzard Mountain wildfire, which remains at about 26 acres and 60% contained, according to U.S. Forest Service incident command.
Firefighters have stopped the forward spread of the fire, but it is not yet fully contained, said White County Public Information Officer Bryce Barrett. Crews say pockets of unburned fuel still exist between the fire and established control lines, requiring continued work to ensure those lines hold.
Because of that, containment numbers may not increase immediately, even as progress continues on the ground.
“With dry conditions and limited rainfall in the forecast, operations are expected to continue over the next one to two weeks as crews work toward full containment,” said Barrett in an April 14 update.
At this time, the fire is being closely monitored, and no homes are threatened.
Officials are urging residents to avoid outdoor burning due to the elevated fire risk.
Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
