The Georgia State Patrol has identified the victim of Thursday’s fatal accident in White County as 82-year-old Lewis Raia of Clarkesville.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, Raia was traveling east on GA-356 in a Chevrolet Avalanche pickup when, for unknown reasons, he ran off the north shoulder of the road. The truck rotated and the left side of the vehicle struck a large tree.

The White County Coroner pronounced him dead at the scene.

The accident happened around 1:30 p.m. right in front of White County Fire Station 7 about three miles east of Unicoi State Park.

“Mr. Raia was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and alcohol or drugs are not suspected to be a contributing factor in this crash,” says SFC Auston Allen with Georgia State Patrol Post 6 in Gainesville.
