GAINESVILLE, Ga. — A Hall County Sheriff’s Office investigator was fired Wednesday after an internal investigation found she repeatedly used the agency’s Flock Safety system to track the whereabouts of someone she knew for personal reasons.
Melissa Wood, most recently assigned to property crimes, was terminated Sept. 2, becoming the third investigator fired for unauthorized use of the system during the agency’s ongoing audit.
The Sheriff’s Office said Wood’s searches were unrelated to law enforcement purposes. She had worked for the agency since February 2022.
Her violations, along with others uncovered during the audit, will be referred to the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council and the Hall County Solicitor’s Office for further review, according to the agency.
The Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs Unit is continuing its audit.
This is the 7th such separation of employment from the Hall County Sheriff’s Office since Now Georgia pushed for records of their Flock audit.
