
CLARKESVILLE, Ga. — Authorities are investigating the death of a man who was struck by a vehicle while lying in a Habersham County roadway early Saturday morning.
Emergency crews were dispatched to Tom Born Road at U.S. 441/GA 15 shortly before 1 a.m. Sept. 12. The driver called 911 after realizing he had struck a person lying in the road. He returned to check on the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Habersham County Coroner Kasey McEntire said authorities have identified the man, who was in his 30s. Authorities are withholding his name until they notify his family.
Investigators have not determined whether the man was alive when the vehicle struck him, McEntire said. His body was sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for an autopsy.
The Georgia State Patrol and Habersham County Sheriff’s Office responded. The investigation remains ongoing.
