TOCCOA, Ga. — A Dahlonega woman was injured when she was struck by an SUV that swerved to avoid two dogs in the road.
The accident happened Sept. 11, near 3870 Talmadge Drive (GA 17 Alternate) in northern Habersham County.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the dogs entered the highway in front of a Nissan Rogue. The driver swerved left to avoid hitting them. At the same time, 58-year-old Sandra D. Schriefer entered the road behind the dogs. The Nissan struck her and knocked her to the ground.
An ambulance transported Schriefer to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Initial reports indicated she was walking her dog, but the State Patrol report does not confirm that. It remains unclear whether the dogs were leashed.
The driver, 60-year-old Mary T. Booth of Toccoa, and her passenger, 61-year-old Ester Maxwell of Toccoa, were not injured.
