HARTWELL, Ga. — The Hart County Water and Sewer Authority has issued a boil water advisory for customers in parts of Hart County following a water line repair that may have caused low water pressure in the affected areas.
The advisory, issued July 11, is a precautionary measure after the repair disrupted water service or reduced water pressure to very low levels, creating the potential for microbial contamination.
The advisory affects customers on the following roads:
- Airline Goldmine Road
- White Road
- Kotal Road
- Blackmon Road
- Kotal Circle
- Whitewood Road
- Airline Store Road
- Deer Run Lane
- Airline School Road
- Bethany Bowersville Road
- Destiny Lane
- Union Hill School Road
Residents who experienced a water outage or low water pressure are advised to use only boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking, cooking and food preparation until the advisory is lifted.
To make water safe for consumption, officials recommend bringing tap water to a rolling boil, allowing it to boil for one minute, then letting it cool before use.
According to the authority, boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, brushing teeth, washing fruits and vegetables, preparing food and infant formula, making ice and providing drinking water for pets.
Officials said tap water may still be used for activities such as laundry and dishwashing if done properly.
The advisory will remain in effect until the Hart County Water and Sewer Authority completes water quality testing and confirms the system is safe. Customers will be notified when the advisory is lifted.
Once the advisory ends, customers should flush all faucets for at least two minutes before using tap water for drinking or food preparation.
Customers with questions may contact the Hart County Water and Sewer Authority at 706-377-4387.
