HABERSHAM COUNTY, Ga. — Two people were injured Saturday in a three-vehicle crash on Historic Highway U.S. 441/GA 385 that also damaged a Habersham County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle north of Clarkesville.
The wreck occurred around 4:54 p.m. Aug. 8 at the intersection of Hills Crossing Road and New Liberty Road.
According to the Georgia State Patrol’s preliminary crash report, a Honda Pilot driven by 79-year-old Alwin Wagener of Asheville, North Carolina, was traveling north on U.S. 441 as a southbound Subaru Crosstrek attempted to turn left onto Hills Crossing Road.

A Habersham County Sheriff’s Office Ford Explorer driven by 41-year-old Brandon Holcomb of Clarkesville was stopped in the southbound lane at the four-way intersection.
Authorities said Wagener failed to stop at the stop sign and struck the Subaru. The Honda continued forward and then struck the sheriff’s vehicle.
Wagener and a passenger, 56-year-old Blaike Lorton of Asheville, were injured and transported to Habersham County Medical Center. Their injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
The Subaru driver, 67-year-old Mary Hughes of Tallulah Falls, was not injured. Holcomb also was not injured.
The State Patrol charged Wagener with failure to stop at a stop sign.
