HALL COUNTY, Ga. — Firefighters rescued a person trapped inside a burning home in Hall County on Friday, as crews battled intense flames and rapidly changing fire conditions that forced an emergency evacuation of firefighters.
Around 1 p.m. on July 3, Hall County Fire Rescue responded to a reported house fire on Spring Street, just off of Jesse Jewell Parkway. When the first crews arrived, they found heavy fire on the outside of the two-story home that had already spread to the first and second floors, said Hall County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief John Murray.
Firefighters launched an aggressive interior attack while other crews established a water supply, searched the home and worked to contain the blaze.
During the initial response, a bystander told firefighters someone was still inside the house.

Search crews quickly located the victim on the kitchen floor and carried the person from the home. EMS personnel began advanced medical treatment before transporting the victim to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville. Officials have not released the person’s name or condition.
As crews continued battling the fire, Murray said flames spread into concealed attic spaces, creating increasingly dangerous conditions. Incident commanders ordered an emergency evacuation after the fire intensified inside the structure.
“All firefighters were safely accounted for before operations transitioned to a defensive strategy,” said Murray.

Soon after, the fire broke through the roof. Firefighters used a high-volume water jet and multiple handlines to bring the blaze under control and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby residences.
A second person at the scene was evaluated for medical concerns related to the incident and transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville for further evaluation. No firefighters were injured.
Murray credited the coordinated efforts of Hall County Fire Rescue personnel, Gainesville Fire Department crews, Hall County 911, EMS personnel, and “all assisting agencies whose teamwork contributed to the successful rescue, accountability of all firefighters, and containment of the fire.” He said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Fire equipment in the road shut down one lane of traffic along the heavily traveled Jesse Jewell Parkway for serveral hours. The road was reopened around 4:30 p.m. Friday.
