
HARTWELL, Ga. — A 7-year-old child was injured Saturday afternoon after being thrown from a personal watercraft on Lake Hartwell during the Memorial Day holiday weekend, according to Georgia Department of Natural Resources officials.
Game wardens responded to the boating incident around 4:40 p.m. Saturday, May 23, on Lake Hartwell in northeast Georgia. Authorities said it involved a single personal watercraft carrying two people. During the incident, the child was thrown from the vessel and suffered an injury to her right leg.
The juvenile was transported to a hospital in Lavonia with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to officials, the operator of the personal watercraft was an 18-year-old man who had not completed Georgia’s required boating education course. Investigators also found the watercraft was not registered.
The operator was cited following the investigation.
According to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the incident on Lake Hartwell is the only boating accident that has been reported on Georgia’s waterways this holiday weekend. There have been 3 BUI arrests statewide.
