The Lofts Apartments shooting victim has been identified as a member of the Air Force Security Forces according to Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan. An investigation is still ongoing to determine the official manner of death for 36-year-old Yun Lee who died on the scene at the Columbus apartment complex August 24, 2026.
Bryan said Lee was discovered slumped over suffering from a single gunshot wound to the head by his deputy coroner. She was at the apartment of her boyfriend who serves in the Army. Lee’s boyfriend described a struggle over the gun to investigators alleging he was attempting to put the gun on safety when Lee fired the gun. Neighbors reported to police they heard arguing at the apartment prior to the shooting.
Lee’s death has not been officially ruled a suicide or homicide. The coroner told NowGeorgia.com he is awaiting autopsy results which will reveal more about “the trajectory of the bullet” and will rule on an official manner of death once the report is completed. The process could take several weeks.
