A GoFundMe account has been launched to support SafeHouse Ministries in Columbus after the group’s van was destroyed Wednesday. A massive tree limb fell outside Grace House, destroying a communal van used by SafeHouse to transport clients and serve its shelters.
No one was injured, and the women and children’s shelter escaped damage by only a few inches, according to the GoFundMe organizer. A fundraiser will help the nonprofit secure replacement transportation and bus passes as it continues serving people affected by homelessness, addiction and incarceration across the Chattahoochee Valley.
SafeHouse Ministries operates the Grace House for women and children as well as the Freedom House for men and Trinity House for local families in need. The non-profit “seeks to meet the emergency needs of those we serve and to offer long-term solutions. We see God renew wounded lives and restore relationships with God and loved ones and we rejoice with our community as love grows one life at a time.”
Countless testimonies have been shared online by residents who were able to get their lives back on track with the help of SafeHouse. The ministry also provides aid during unbearable heatwaves and bitter cold stretches in the Chattahoochee Valley. The destroyed van was used to pick up citizens exposed to dangerous weather conditions.
