WHITE COUNTY, Ga. — The White County Board of Commissioners gave their approval Monday for the naming of the History/Genealogy Room in the proposed new White County Library in honor of the late Shirley Black McDonald.
McDonald, who was known as the Official Historian of White County, served as Vice Chairman of the White County Library Board of Trustees and the Regional Library Board of Directors. She passed away in 2014.
The request for the naming came following a request and donation by the Clark and Jan McDonald Family.
The Commission Board also discussed, during their called meeting, working with the Georgia Department of Transportation to move up the replacement of the Town Creek Road Bridge. According to the commissioners, the bridge project, which was scheduled for replacement in 2027, has been moved back to 2031 due to what was described as a lack of Georgia Department of Transportation funding.
Commission Chairman Travis Turner said they will be meeting with GDOT officials this week to “Go to bat” for our citizens on this project. The 322-foot-long bridge on Town Creek Road was built in 1959 and has extensive wear issues.
