Warm Springs police sergeant was the ‘life of the party’

Funeral services honoring slain Warm Springs police Sergeant Chris Fisher will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at Flat Creek Baptist Church in Fayetteville. The family will receive friends for visitation from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at 3:00 p.m.

According to the 36-year-old police officer’s obituary published by Mowell Funeral Home “Chris brought an energy that was impossible to miss. He was the life of the party, the kind of person whose presence filled a room and whose absence will be deeply felt.”

Sgt Christopher Durran Fisher was killed in the line of duty September 1, 2026, as he sat in his patrol car in the Warm Springs community. The Army veteran and father of two was shot by a man he had arrested just days earlier during a violent encounter.

“He proudly served his country for five years in the United States Army as a Transportation Specialist. He later dedicated his career to protecting the communities around him through law enforcement, serving with the Heard County, Fayette County, Meriwether County, and Warm Springs Police Department. During his eight years, Chris also served as a SWAT officer, a role that reflected his courage, dedication, and willingness to put himself in service of others,” his obituary states.

Governor Brian Kemp said Sgt Fisher will be remembered across the state and the counties he served. “As we hold his wife, children, and fellow officers in our hearts and prayers, I have ordered flags to be lowered at the State Capitol and Meriwether, Fayette, and Heard Counties Tuesday, September 8, in honor of his selfless service.”
