TOCCOA, Ga. — Tips from the public helped Stephens County investigators identify and arrest a man accused of breaking into a convenience store on Rock Creek Road.

Stephens County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 30-year-old Jeremy Frank Scarborough of Elberton Monday morning, June 29. They took him into custody without incident while serving warrants at his workplace on Broad Street in Toccoa.

Investigators say Scarborough was identified after the sheriff’s office released surveillance images and a lookout on June 25, asking for the public’s help. Authorities said multiple tips led investigators to identify Scarborough as the primary suspect in the break-in that occurred between June 21 and 22. He also had outstanding probation violation warrants from Elbert County.

Following the arrest, investigators obtained and executed a search warrant at a Rumsey Avenue residence in Toccoa, where Scarborough had reportedly been living.

“During the search of the residence and a vehicle on the property, investigators located evidence linking Scarborough to the burglary,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release.

Scarborough is charged with second-degree burglary, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, theft by taking, and criminal damage to property. He remains in the Stephens County Detention Center, where he is also being held on the outstanding Elbert County warrants.

The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office thanked everyone who shared information and submitted tips that helped identify the suspect in this case.
