HALL COUNTY, Ga. — A Talmo man accused of robbing a Hall County convenience store at knifepoint is now facing additional charges in a separate incident in which investigators say he struck a store clerk with his vehicle.
The Hall County Sheriff’s Office said investigators have obtained new warrants charging 37-year-old James Kyle Whitley with aggravated assault and theft by shoplifting in connection with a June 18 incident at Zack’s Food Rack on Candler Road.
According to investigators, Whitley allegedly grabbed several packs of kratom from the store and ran outside. When a 53-year-old clerk stood in front of his vehicle to stop him, deputies say he drove forward, striking her in the knees before fleeing. She suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The new charges come a day after Whitley was arrested in connection with the June 24 armed robbery of the Chevron Food Mart on Candler Road. Investigators say he entered the store armed with a knife and stole about $420 worth of kratom products before fleeing.
Whitley was initially charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault in that case. He remains in the Hall County Jail without bond.
