
A two-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian that occurred at approximately 9:57 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, has claimed the life of a Georgia man. The pedestrian, Cleavon Barton, 86, of Atlanta, Ga., who was walking in the roadway, was fatally injured after being struck initially by a 2025 Volvo tractor-trailer and then by a 2013 Chevrolet Impala. Barton was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The 2025 Volvo tractor-trailer was driven by Alvin A. Weekes, 27, of Locust Grove, Ga., and the 2013 Chevrolet Impala was driven by Madisen J. Stewart, 20, of Smiths Station.
The crash occurred on U.S. 280 near the 123-mile marker, approximately 13 miles northwest of Opelika, in Lee County. Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
