HABERSHAM COUNTY, Ga. — A rollover crash on Ga. 365 happened after two drivers tried to merge into the same lane at nearly the same time, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
The crash occurred Wednessday morning, July 15, on GA 365 South just past Rock Road.
Troopers said 28-year-old Amanda Thomas of Cleveland was driving a Chevrolet Trailblazer in the left lane behind a Ram 5500 truck driven by 38-year-old James Lovelace of Lavonia.
According to the investigation, Lovelace signaled to move into the right lane. Thomas also turned on her signal and moved into the right lane, getting there just ahead of the truck.
Because of the truck’s size, the load it was hauling and the fact that the lane change was already underway, the Ram continued into the right lane, troopers said.
Thomas swerved to avoid the truck, causing her SUV to leave the roadway. The Trailblazer struck a guardrail, spun, hit the guardrail a second time and overturned, coming to rest on top of the guardrail.
State troopers said roadway evidence and video footage helped investigators determine what happened.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, both drivers’ actions contributed to the crash.
Authorities did not immediately release information on whether anyone was injured or whether any citations were issued.
