HART COUNTY, Ga. — A Hartwell man was seriously injured Thursday morning in a four-vehicle crash on Georgia Highway 8/US 29, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
The crash happened around 10:05 a.m. July 16 at the intersection of GA 8/US 29 and Well Road.
Investigators said a 2007 Pontiac Torrent driven by 58-year-old Chris Mize of Canon was traveling west on the highway behind a 1997 Ford Explorer driven by 66-year-old Haskell Gray of Hartwell.
Ahead of the Explorer, a 2013 Hyundai Elantra driven by 31-year-old Jose Paez Reyes of Hartwell was stopped in the westbound lane, waiting to turn left onto Well Road. At the same time, a 2018 Toyota Sienna driven by 44-year-old Maggie Duong of Royston was traveling east on GA 8/US 29.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the Pontiac rear-ended the Ford Explorer, causing the Explorer to spin counterclockwise. The Explorer then struck the left rear of the stopped Hyundai before overturning into the eastbound lane, where it was hit by the oncoming Toyota Sienna.
Gray suffered serious injuries and was flown by medical helicopter to Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Mize complained of injuries but was not transported from the scene.
Paez Reyes was taken to AnMed Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. His passenger, 35-year-old Yelianny Delgado of Hartwell, was also transported to AnMed Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Duong was taken to AnMed Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries as well.
The Georgia State Patrol said charges are pending.
The Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team-B (SCRT-B) is assisting with the investigation.
