BALDWIN, Ga. — John Wright will become president of Fieldale Farms on Jan. 1, succeeding Tom Hensley, who will retire at the end of this year after 50 years with the company.
Fieldale announced the leadership change Oct. 19. Wright, currently the company’s chief operating officer, will join its board of directors Dec. 9 and work with Hensley through the remainder of the year on the transition.
Wright joined Fieldale on June 20, 1992, and brings more than 34 years of experience with the Northeast Georgia poultry producer.
“John’s extensive experience, knowledge of our operations and commitment to Fieldale make him exceptionally well suited to lead the company into its next chapter,” said Gus Arrendale III, CEO and chairman of the board of directors. “Having spent more than three decades with Fieldale, he understands our people, our customers and the values that have made this company successful. We have tremendous confidence in his leadership and in Fieldale’s future.”
A half-century of leadership
Hensley began his career with Fieldale on Sept. 18, 1976. The company credited his leadership and commitment to employees, growers and customers with helping shape its growth over the past five decades.
“Tom’s contributions to Fieldale over the past 50 years are immeasurable,” Arrendale said. “His dedication and leadership have helped build the strong company we are today. We are deeply grateful for everything he has accomplished and the legacy he leaves for future generations.”
Wright credited Hensley with helping prepare him for his new role.
“I’m honored by the Board’s confidence and deeply grateful to Tom Hensley for his many years of leadership and mentorship. Tom built a strong foundation at Fieldale, and I look forward to building on it with our outstanding team,” Wright said.
Fieldale remains owned by its founding families and describes itself as one of the world’s largest independent poultry producers. The company owns and produces the Springer Mountain Farms chicken brand.
