TALLULAH FALLS, Ga. — When Ashton Roache arrived at Tallulah Falls School from Nassau, Bahamas, as an eighth grader, few could have predicted just how thoroughly he would rewrite the school’s baseball record book.
Four years after making an immediate impact with a memorable junior varsity home run, Roache finished his high school career as the most prolific offensive player in program history, setting records that may stand for years to come.
With the final statistics from the 2026 season now official, Roache owns three single-game records, six single-season records and nine career records. He holds school career marks in hits (113), home runs (14), RBIs (86), runs scored (135), doubles (33), triples (7), stolen bases (92), walks (69) and hit-by-pitches (45).
The only major offensive career record that escaped him was batting average. Roache finished with a .382 career average, ranking third in school history behind Devon Mayfield’s .506 mark, set in 2010.
“It’s a blessing,” Roache said of setting so many records. “My objective was never to break any records. I just wanted to be the best that I can be. The 113 career hits is probably the most important to me.”
A career built on perseverance
Roache’s accomplishments did not come without adversity.
He said one of the defining moments of his career was overcoming what he considered a disappointing freshman season. Rather than letting it derail his confidence, he used it as motivation over the next three years.
“The fact that I didn’t quit or give up on myself after having a terrible freshman year,” Roache said when asked what he would remember most about his high school career.
His persistence paid off in a historic senior campaign.
Roache hit a career-best .483 in 2026 while setting single-season school records with four home runs, 36 RBIs, 47 runs scored and 16 doubles. He also stole 28 bases and contributed on the mound, finishing with four victories and a 3.83 ERA.
More than statistics
Beyond the numbers, Roache leaves behind a legacy of leadership.
Following the graduation of much of the team’s core from its 21-win 2025 season, Roache embraced a larger leadership role for a younger Indians squad.
“Knowing that this would be a growing season for the team, I knew I had to step up as a leader — especially vocally,” he said. “I was always encouraging and reminding the boys to have fun. I believe in leading by action, but this season I had to lead by both action and also my words.”
Over four varsity seasons, Roache helped Tallulah Falls compile 74 victories, make the state playoffs each year and reach the GHSA state championship series in 2024, finishing as state runner-up.
His individual honors include three All-Region selections and two All-State honors.
Looking ahead
While Roache’s name now sits atop nearly every offensive category in the Tallulah Falls record book, his baseball journey is just beginning.
“As of now, I will be going to the University of California-Berkeley to continue my academic and baseball career, but if God wants to open another door then I’m sure He will,” he said.
For Tallulah Falls, Roache leaves behind a standard that future generations of Indians will chase. For the player who never set out to break records, his place in program history is now permanently written in ink.
