LAVONIA, Ga. — The Lavonia Police Department has been re-certified through the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police’s Georgia Law Enforcement Certification Program, continuing a distinction the agency has maintained for 25 years.
The department announced it successfully completed the certification process, which it first achieved in 2001. State certification is renewed every three years through a comprehensive on-site assessment.
According to the department, the evaluation measures compliance with 141 professional standards across nine chapters. The assessment examines an agency’s policies, procedures, training and operations to ensure they meet or exceed recognized law enforcement best practices.
Police officials said maintaining certification demonstrates the department’s ongoing commitment to professionalism, accountability and continuous improvement.
“This achievement reflects the dedication of every member of the Lavonia Police Department and our unwavering commitment to providing the highest level of professional service to the citizens of Lavonia,” the department said in a statement.
The department also said it remains committed to transparency, accountability and meeting the highest standards in modern policing.
