CLARKESVILLE, Ga. — After more than 45 years of serving children and families, longtime North Georgia educator Brenda Thurmond is beginning a new chapter as a published author.
Thurmond, 82, will celebrate the release of three children’s books with a signing from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, in the fellowship hall at Clarkesville Baptist Church.
The featured books are:
- Liora, The Littlest Angel
- The Christmas Cup
- Ruby Mae’s Christmas Gift
Inspired by Christmas programs Thurmond originally wrote for her church, the illustrated stories reflect her Christian faith, love of children, and belief in kindness, generosity, and helping others.
“Children have always held a very special place in my heart,” Thurmond said. “It means so much to see these stories become books that families can read, enjoy and share together. I hope each one reminds children that even the smallest act of love can make a difference.”
Thurmond returned to college at age 50 to earn her teaching degree and spent decades working with children and families in the local school system. At 75, she faced breast cancer. Now a survivor, she is fulfilling another longtime dream by becoming a published author.
The signing will give friends, former students, church members, and area families an opportunity to meet Thurmond and purchase personalized copies of her books.
The event is open to the community.
