NGMC Gainesville resumes operations after bomb threat

GAINESVILLE, Ga. – Law enforcement has given the all clear at NGMC Gainesville, Longstreet Clinic and the surrounding area following a bomb threat.

A statement from Northeast Georgia Health System said all hospital operations are back to normal and appointments can be attended as scheduled.

The hospital and clinic went on lockdown early Tuesday after the threat was issued. Authorities have not released any further details on the investigation.

Northeast Georgia Health System has canceled Tuesday appointments at its Gainesville hospital and Longstreet Clinic “until further notice” due to a bomb threat.

Members of the public reported a heavy police presence at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville early Tuesday. Patients and family members inside the hospital reported seeing bomb sniffing dogs and armed officers searching the facility. The first reports of a problem surfaced around 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 22.

The Gainesville Police Department confirmed on social media that it was a bomb threat around noon. Shortly after, Northeast Georgia Health System issued this statement: “There is currently a heavy law enforcement presence at our hospital campus in Gainesville, as police investigate a bomb threat in the vicinity. All appointments at Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville and Longstreet Clinic’s Gainesville location today are cancelled until further notice. If someone needs emergency care, they can dial 911 to access the emergency department.”
