ALTO, Ga. — A woman was critically injured Saturday after pouring gasoline on a brush pile and trying to light it, Banks County fire officials said.
The gasoline caused a flash fire. The woman suffered second- and third-degree burns to about half of her lower body.
Emergency crews treated her at the scene. A medical helicopter then flew her to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. Her name has not been released.
Banks County Fire & Emergency Services responded to the fire at 244 Hidden Valley Drive in Alto around 10:30 a.m. Sept. 19.
When firefighters arrived, the brush fire was out of control and had spread across about one acre. Crews quickly contained it.
No other injuries were reported.
