National Weather Service confirms EF-0 tornado in Elbert County

ELBERTON, Ga. — The National Weather Service has confirmed that a brief EF-0 tornado touched down Sunday evening on the northeast side of Elberton near Ruckersville in Elbert County.

According to the weather service survey team, the tornado occurred between approximately 8:17 p.m. and 8:21 p.m. on May 24.

The tornado reached maximum estimated winds of 75 mph and had a path width of about 15 yards.

Forecasters classified the tornado as an EF-0 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, which is the weakest tornado rating but can still cause damage to trees, roofs and outbuildings.

The National Weather Service said no injuries or fatalities were reported.

Survey crews completed their assessment Monday and confirmed the tornado touched down briefly before lifting.
