HEMC warns members of phone scam

Habersham EMC warns members to steer clear of the latest scam targeting them. The local cooperative says some members have received telephone calls stating they have won, or could be eligible to win, a Life Protect system.

People who receive such a call should, “hang up at once and report the call to their local law enforcement,” says HEMC spokesperson Nicole Dover. Do not give out any personal information.

If HEMC members have questions regarding their accounts, customer service representatives can be reached at 706-754-2114, 706-865-4362 or 800-640-6812.

Habersham EMC, an electric cooperative based in Clarkesville, serves more than 26,000 members in six counties of Northeast Georgia.
