CLARKESVILLE — A late-night fire off Buckhorn Road came close to spreading to a nearby home Sunday night.
Habersham County Emergency Services was dispatched just after 10:15 p.m. to a reported structure fire at 2010 Buckhorn Road. Units arrived within minutes and found a small storage shed heavily involved, with flames already extending into the surrounding grass.
The shed, estimated at about 12 by 8 feet, sat roughly 10 feet from the home, creating an immediate concern for exposure. Heat from the fire had already begun melting siding on the residence.
Crews quickly stretched a line and focused first on stopping the spread, knocking down the grass fire and cooling the exterior of the home. Once the house was secured, firefighters turned their attention to the shed, pulling sections of the metal roof to fully extinguish the fire.

The bulk of the fire was brought under control within about 10 minutes.
Investigators say the fire started from a charcoal grill used earlier in the evening. Hot ash is believed to have fallen from the grill due to a missing air vent, igniting nearby materials.
No one inside the home was injured. One firefighter was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Habersham for evaluation and later released.
The fire comes as conditions remain dry across Northeast Georgia, with an increased risk for fires to spread quickly. Ongoing wildfire activity in White County has kept crews on alert in the area.
Emergency Services is reminding residents to fully extinguish grills and keep them a safe distance from structures.
