CLARKESVILLE — Danny McClellon will be sworn in Wednesday morning as Habersham County’s District 3 commissioner following his victory in the May 19 primary election.

The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. June 3 in the office of Habersham County Probate Judge Pam Wooley at the Habersham County Courthouse.

McClellon will be sworn in to serve the remainder of former Commissioner Jimmy Tench’s unexpired term, which runs through Dec. 31. He will then begin a full four-year term on Jan. 1, 2027, after winning election to the seat in May.

McClellon was elected in both the regularly scheduled District 3 election and a special election held to fill the remainder of Tench’s term. In the special election, McClellon defeated Jason M. Smith with 56.8% of the vote, earning the right to immediately assume the seat and serve the remainder of the term. He also won the regular election with 56.78% of the vote, securing a full term beginning in 2027.

Following Wednesday’s ceremony, McClellon is expected to take his seat on the Habersham County Board of Commissioners and begin representing District 3.

After his election victory, McClellon said his priority would be serving the residents of the district.

“I’m just here to work for the people,” McClellon said following the May 19 election. “This election wasn’t about me. Basically just whatever the folks down here — the majority of them — want, that’s the way I’m going to vote.”

McClellon defeated Smith in both District 3 contests on the ballot. The unusual election arrangement was necessary because Tench resigned before the expiration of his term, requiring voters to select both a commissioner to complete the remaining months of the term and a commissioner to serve the next full term.

The swearing-in will officially fill the District 3 vacancy and restore the Habersham County Board of Commissioners to its full five-member membership.
