HOMER, Ga. — A structure fire in Banks County caused an estimated $500,000 in damage Sunday after flames destroyed a large poultry house on Bellamy Road.

Banks County Fire and Emergency Services responded at 12:25 p.m. April 12 to 407 Bellamy Road on a reported structure fire. When crews arrived, they found a 40-by-500-foot chicken house heavily involved in flames.

Firefighters launched a defensive operation to protect nearby structures as the fire spread beyond the building, igniting surrounding brush. Crews worked to contain those spot fires while preventing further damage.

The building was a total loss, officials said.
