CLEVELAND, Ga. -The final but unofficial vote count from the primary runoff election has Jordan Lee Fincher winning the District 4 White County Board of Education seat. Fincher earned 2,489 votes to incumbent Linda Erbele’s 2029.

Erbele, before the last precinct was announced, conceded the win to Fincher and had only good things to say about him.

“I want to say that I appreciate all the people who supported me and voted for me very much. I have gotten to know Jordan a little bit during this race, and I really appreciate him running a clean campaign. He’s intelligent and caring. I think he’ll be a good board of education member. And if I have to leave, it’s okay to leave it in his hands,” said Erbele.

Fincher, who, after taking it all in about winning, also talked positively about his opponent in this race, saying, “Linda’s been great. She did a great job. I mean she’s finishing up her eighth year serving so I can’t be anything but appreciative towards her especially, but it’s an awesome experience. I’m very grateful, and I look forward to January. We’ll get started and see where it goes.”

Information released by the elections office showed there were 4,949 ballots cast in both the advance voting and Tuesday’s balloting, which resulted in an amazing 22.12 percent of the county’s 22,378 registered voters participating in this process.

Usually a runoff election will only attract a small number of voters, but the combination of the local board of education race and the hyped up very negative campaign of the governor’s race got the attention of the voters.

In another race of local importance, Will Wade easily beat Philip Milam for the State Senate District 51 republican race. Wade picked up 61.2 percent of the votes to Milam’s 38.8 percent.
