Columbus man killed in Opelika motorcycle crash

A Columbus man has died following a motorcycle crash in Opelika on Friday, September 4, 2026, according to the Opelika Police Department.

At approximately 2:12 p.m., an Opelika Police Officer traveling on 2nd Avenue witnessed a crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV. The 66-year-old driver of the motorcycle was found unresponsive in the grass near the roadway. Medics rendered aid before transporting him to East Alabama Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

The identity of the motorcycle driver has not been released. The driver and passenger of the SUV remained on scene and were treated for minor injuries. The crash remains under investigation by the Opelika Police Traffic Homicide Investigation Unit.
