
A female victim was shot and killed inside a Columbus Dollar General store Tuesday June 23, 2026. The incident happened inside the store located on Victory Drive at Marathon Drive just around 10 am.
Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan identified the victim as 44-year-old Alexis Hill. Hill was a cashier for the store. According to the coroner the suspect came into the Dollar General to buy hamburger buns which cost $1.58. The male suspect handed the victim crumbled up $2 dollars and as she was straightening them out to put in the cash drawer the suspect stepped to his right and shot her in the head. Hill was pronounced dead on the scene.
Police officers patrolling the area encountered the suspect about a mile away on Baker Plaza Drive a short time after the deadly shooting. A shootout ensued and the suspect wanted for the Dollar General murder was shot dead. A Columbus police officer and his K9 were injured during that incident. The GBI is investigating.
