BALDWIN, Ga. — Authorities have released the name of a woman killed Tuesday in a head-on collision with a semi-truck in Baldwin. 41-year-old Ashlie Robertson of Cornelia died in the crash, according to Habersham County Coroner Kasey McEntire.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene on Willingham Avenue (Gainesville Highway) just north of Dallas Drive around 10:15 a.m. on Aug. 18.
Investigators determined Robertson was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe south on Willingham while the semi was traveling north, negotiating a right-hand curve. According to the GSP crash report, Robertson failed to maintain her lane and crossed the centerline into the path of the oncoming truck.
Troopers said the truck driver attempted to avoid the collision by “sounding his air horn and steering his vehicle to the right shoulder.” The truck struck the guardrail with its right side. The Tahoe collided head-on with the semi in the northbound lane.
The impact caused the Tahoe to rotate counterclockwise before coming to an uncontrolled stop, blocking the southbound lane. The truck came to rest near the point of impact, which E-911 dispatchers said was near the Baldwin Fire Department.
Robertson was trapped inside the wreckage. First responders freed her from the Tahoe. The coroner pronounced her dead at the scene.
The Georgia State Patrol investigated the crash but has not said whether anyone else was injured or released the other driver’s name.
Now Georgia will continue to update this article as new information is released.
