If you fly out of Atlanta, there is a new option right here at Columbus Airport (CSG). The first flight of Delta Air Lines’ Boeing 717 aircraft is scheduled to arrive on Friday, June 12. The introduction of the larger plane marks a significant milestone for the airport and the region, demonstrating the growing demand for air travel from the Chattahoochee Valley.
The Boeing 717 will operate on select Friday and Saturday midday flights between Columbus and Atlanta throughout a trial period this summer. With seating for 110 passengers, more than 40% additional capacity compared to the CRJ-900 currently serving the market, the aircraft provides greater access to Delta’s global network while enhancing the travel experience for local passengers.

“This is a direct result of our community choosing to fly local,” said Amber Clark, Airport Director for Columbus Airport. “When travelers support their hometown airport, airlines take notice. The arrival of the Boeing 717 demonstrates that Columbus and the surrounding region have the demand necessary to support larger aircraft and expanded opportunities for air service growth.”
Flying locally could save you time and money
If you drive to Atlanta and park at the airport, take Groome Transportation or Uber to the Atlanta Airport, you might actually save money and the hassle right here at the Columbus Airport.
“Our website has an easy to use calculator to determine the cost difference,” said Sonya Overton, Public Information Officer (PIO) for the Columbus Airport.

For Columbus Airport, the arrival of the Boeing 717 represents more than just a larger plane, it is an investment in the future of air service for the region. Every passenger who chooses to begin their journey at CSG helps strengthen the airport’s ability to attract other services, larger planes, and future air service opportunities.
The Boeing 717 service comes as Columbus Airport continues to experience strong passenger growth, increasing load factors, and growing support from businesses, military travelers, and residents throughout the Chattahoochee Valley. Community members are encouraged to visit the airport on June 12 to witness the arrival of the Boeing 717 and celebrate this exciting moment for Columbus.
