CLARKESVILLE — The City of Clarkesville has selected Sky Valley City Manager Jason Streetman as the sole finalist for its city manager position, bringing a veteran local government administrator and former Habersham County planning official one step closer to leading the city.

The Clarkesville City Council announced Streetman’s selection during its recent council retreat. State law requires a 14-day waiting period before the city can formally appoint him to the position.

Streetman currently serves as city manager of Sky Valley, a Rabun County mountain community that bills itself as Georgia’s highest incorporated city. He has overseen city administration and municipal operations there while working with elected officials on planning, infrastructure and community development initiatives.

The Sky Valley City Council accepted Streetman’s resignation June 16, with an effective date of July 31. According to a news release from the city, Streetman will remain in his position through the end of July to assist with the transition of city operations.

“We appreciate Jason’s service to the City of Sky Valley and its residents, as well as his commitment to supporting a smooth transition,” Sky Valley Mayor Benita Cotton-Orr said in the release. “We wish him well in his future endeavors.”

Streetman has extensive experience in local government, including previous service with Habersham County. He is a certified land-use planner and formerly served as the county’s planning director. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Troy University and a Master of Public Administration degree from Piedmont University with an emphasis in local government management.

His selection comes as Clarkesville continues work on a number of projects, including economic development initiatives, downtown redevelopment efforts and long-range planning.

Streetman would succeed Keith Dickerson, who retired in February to become city manager in McDonough. Since Dickerson’s departure, City Clerk Julie Poole has served as interim city manager.

The city has not yet announced when the council will vote on Streetman’s appointment.
