Cindy Chapman Wood

Cindy Chapman Wood, age 73, of Alto, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 20, 2026.

Born in Greenwood, South Carolina, on February 16, 1953, Cindy was the daughter of the late Frank Chapman and Rachael Rich Sorrow. She retired from Walmart following eight years of dedicated service as a cashier. Cindy was of the Baptist faith.

Cindy’s life was blessed by the family she leaves behind, including her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Cindy found great joy in the simple beauty of life, especially tending to her beloved flower gardens. She took pride in nurturing her flowers and watching them bloom, finding peace and happiness in the beauty of God’s creation.

Just as she lovingly cared for her gardens, the love she shared with her family will continue to blossom in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Though her earthly journey has come to an end, the love she leaves behind will continue through the generations of her family.

In addition to her parents, Cindy was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Sorrow.

Survivors include her son, Toby Wood; daughter & son-in-law, Sherry Wood Dyer and Kevin Dyer; grandchildren, Alex Wood, Natalie Wood, Stewart Dyer, and Logan Dyer; great-grandchildren, Hunter Dyer, Emma Dyer, Harper Dyer, and Eliza Dyer; sister, Jean Harris; brothers, Benny Chapman, David Sorrow, Andy Sorrow, and Dean Meads; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In accordance with Cindy’s wishes, she will be cremated.

A celebration of Cindy’s life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at Friendly Mission Baptist Church, with Rev. Devin O’Kelly officiating. The family will receive friends following the service on Thursday.
