CLEVELAND, Ga. — Candidates for the White County Board of Education are set to face off tonight in a live debate, giving voters another chance to hear directly from those seeking two contested seats.
The forum, hosted by the White County Chamber of Commerce and WRWH, will air at 6 p.m. on 93.9 FM and on Facebook.
The debate follows a recent candidate forum organized by the White County Republican Party at the White County Park Wellness Center, where candidates outlined their positions and answered questions on key issues facing the school system.
District 2 candidates Kim Rogers and Mary Trigg, along with District 4 candidates Linda Erbele, Jordan Fincher, and Brad Dalton, addressed topics including school operations, bullying, transgender athletes, and overall system performance.
Party chairman Ron Webb said he was encouraged by the turnout and engagement.
“It was well attended, and I certainly appreciate the people who came out and listened to the candidates and got a good feeling of their qualifications,” Webb said. “That’s what we need is more involvement in the political process.”
Panelist Mitchell Barrett, a longtime White County educator and administrator, said the field of candidates stood out.
“I think it’s the best group of candidates I’ve seen in my whole career in White County,” Barrett said. “For years, you could hardly get anybody to run for the board of education. And this year, you’ve got a choice.”
The April 23rd debate is expected to give voters a clearer comparison of the candidates ahead of the upcoming election.
