Several East Alabama counties are currently under a state of emergency as Hurricane Isaias rapidly intensifies over the Gulf. Governor Kay Ivey declared a state of emergency Wednesday for 40 Alabama counties including Russell, Lee and Chambers.
Governor Ivey’s proclamation states the severe weather event “could cause significant damage to public and private property and poses a danger to the health and safety of the people of Alabama including potential disruption of essential utility systems, personal injury and loss of life.”
The Governor said she was also prepared to activate the Alabama National Guard if necessary. The state of emergency went into effect Wednesday at 5:00 pm Eastern time and expires Wednesday October 14, 2026, at 11:59 pm.
Conditions are expected to worsen Friday in West Central Georgia including Muscogee, Harris and Talbot counties from the effects of Hurricane Isaias. The hurricane is expected to make landfall in the Florida panhandle as a Category 2 storm late Friday.
