A severe storm rolled through the Chattahoochee Valley Sunday afternoon leaving thousands of people without power in Columbus. At the height of the power outage more than 6,000 customers were affected according to Georgia Power.
Columbus police officers posted up at intersections on a long stretch of Veteran’s Parkway in North Columbus to direct traffic for several hours. Trees snapped power lines in North Columbus and South Columbus neighborhoods while surrounding counties escaped major damage.
There were still 25 outages reported early Monday September 7, 2026, and more than a thousand residents without power many of them in South Columbus where several homes were damaged.
