Phenix City will honor their 12U All-Star team’s historic run in the Little League World Series Monday night and fans from around the Chattahoochee Valley are welcome to attend. The celebration starts at 6:00 pm at the Idle Hour Baseball Fields, 900 Airport Road in Phenix City. The team is expected to arrive at 7:00 and will hold an autograph session after local and state representatives address the crowd.
The Phenix City little league team captured bi-city hearts after returning to the Williamsport, PA for the first time in nearly three decades. The All-Stars did it with the help of the same Rasmus family who led the team to the national stage in 1999. 12-year-old Kinley Rasmus set records for most strikeouts and most hits by a girl in the series.
Phenix City’s coach Case Rasmus whose son Ryker also played for the team announced on social media that the core group of All-Stars had been playing baseball together since they were 7-year’s old and most will now age out of little league. “Six years. Countless practices. Long summer days. Big wins. Tough losses. A lot of laughs. A few tears. And more memories than I could ever count. And somehow, it all ended in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, at the Little League World Series. What a way to finish. Now, it’s time for the next chapter,” Coach Rasmus posted on his Facebook account.
