
COMMERCE, Ga. — Authorities are investigating a fire at a Banks County home early Monday morning as a possible case of arson.
Banks County Fire and Emergency Services responded to a reported structure fire at 164 Spring Lake Road in Commerce at approximately 2:57 a.m. Aug. 31.
When firefighters arrived, they found fire damage at the rear of the single-family home, but the fire had already gone out. According to fire officials, it appeared the blaze had self-extinguished after igniting. The occupants were not home when the fire occurred. They discovered the damage when they returned to the residence and reported it to authorities.
No injuries were reported, and officials said the home sustained minor damage.
Banks County fire officials said arson is suspected. The Banks County Fire Department and Georgia State Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating the cause of the fire.
Emergency crews remained at the scene until approximately 5:30 a.m.
