CLEVELAND, Ga. — The City of Cleveland has taken a significant step toward acquiring a prominent piece of downtown real estate that city leaders say could play a key role in the community’s future.

During its meeting Monday, the Cleveland City Council voted to authorize Mayor Josh Turner to execute a lease agreement with an option to purchase the property at 65 East Kytle Street. The vote came following an executive session.

The agreement is with Brooks, Kytle and Jarrard LLC and remains subject to any revisions deemed necessary by the city attorney and the mayor.

The property, which includes the former Deb’s Dollar and Discount and Cleveland Collision Center buildings, carries a purchase price of $1.5 million.

While no specific redevelopment plans have been announced, Turner said the city views the property as a valuable long-term investment.

“No definitive plans at this time, but it’s a great piece of property in downtown, and our long-term goal is to work with our downtown development authority to find a great project for the city of Cleveland that will benefit all of our residents in town,” Turner said.
