TOCCOA, Ga. — Longtime Toccoa Fire Chief Jeff Haslup is stepping into retirement on the back of many good wishes. Haslup was honored for his 44 years of service to the city and its residents during a retirement party in Toccoa on Sept. 3.
Public safety officials from around the region attended the celebration. They paid tribute to Haslup for his decades of leadership, dedication, and cooperation with neighboring departments.
In an online tribute to the departing fire chief, Stephens County Sheriff Rusty Fulbright praised Haslup’s professionalism and dedication.
“When I worked at the Toccoa Police Department in the ‘90s and responded to fire calls, Jeff was always helpful and mindful of helping us secure the scene and preserve any potential evidence,” the sheriff said. “He was always ready to lend a hand to help, even if it wasn’t in the realm of his fire department duties.”
Carnes Creek Fire Department officials also praised Haslup for helping ensure the two departments worked closely together. They described him as a “pillar of strength, safety and leadership” whose dedication inspired generations of firefighters.
Cornelia Police Chief Jonathan Roberts also attended Thursday’s celebration to wish Haslup well. Haslup served as a reserve officer with the Cornelia Police Department for many years.
