HABERSHAM COUNTY, Ga. — A semi-truck driver escaped with minor injuries after overturning his rig on GA 15/US 441 Monday afternoon, according to the Georgia State Patrol. The wreck shut down a 2-mile stretch of highway for six hours.
The crash happened around 2:45 p.m. on July 13 just north of the Tom Arrendale Interchange near Clarkesville. According to the Georgia State Patrol, the 2015 Volvo semi-truck was traveling northbound in the right lane of GA 15. Troopers said the driver failed to maintain his lane, causing the truck to run off the east shoulder of the highway.
As the truck traveled off the road, the trailer struck a concrete object in the grass, causing the load to shift. The semi then overturned onto its passenger side before coming to rest in a ditch.
Commercial Vehicle Enforcement responded to the scene as crews worked to recover the overturned truck. The crash closed the northbound lanes of GA 15/US 441 between the Tom Arrendale Interchange and Antioch Church Road, forcing vehicles to detour onto SR 17 and GA 365. The northbound lanes reopened around 8:40 p.m. Monday.
State troopers gave the truck driver a warning for failure to maintain lane.
