Athens Restaurant Week returns with special menus, new downtown shopping event

ATHENS, Ga. — More than 70 restaurants, breweries, coffee shops and bars are offering special menus and discounts this week as Athens Restaurant Week returns July 13 through July 19.

The annual event, organized by Visit Athens GA, features prix-fixe menus, featured dishes, beer flights and sweet treats, giving diners a chance to explore the city’s diverse food scene at special prices.

New this year is Eat the Town, Shop the Block, an after-hours shopping and dining event set for Thursday, July 16, from 5 to 8 p.m. in downtown Athens.

“So, that’s a brand-new way that we’re trying to incorporate local retail businesses,” said Shannon Adams of Visit Athens. “We created a map so you can see what retail businesses are offering discounts that night and what Restaurant Week restaurants are along the same route so that you can shop and snack as you go.”

Participating retailers will offer extended hours and special promotions during the event.

“Athens Restaurant Week has become one of our favorite ways to celebrate the local businesses and culinary talent that make Athens so special,” said Visit Athens Executive Director Katie Williams. “Restaurant Week is a great opportunity to try somewhere new while continuing to support the restaurants and hospitality teams that help shape the city’s culture.”

This year’s lineup includes nationally recognized restaurants such as Puma Yu’s alongside local favorites including Five & Ten, Osteria Olio, The National, Last Resort Grill, White Tiger Gourmet and Trappeze Pub. Breweries, distilleries and coffee shops are also participating.

Athens Restaurant Week runs through Sunday. A complete list of participating businesses and specials is available at AthensRestaurantWeek.com.
