CLEVELAND, Ga. — Downtown Cleveland came alive July 4 as residents gathered for a full day of Independence Day festivities centered around the Cleveland White 250 celebration, part of the community’s observance of America’s 250th anniversary.
The day began early with the “Run for Freedom” 5K at Freedom Park at 8 a.m., drawing runners and walkers into the heart of downtown to kick off the holiday.
From 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the White County Farmers Market joined the celebration at Freedom Park, featuring local vendors, handmade goods, fresh produce and family-friendly activities that helped set the tone for an afternoon of community gathering.
As the day shifted into the evening, downtown filled with food trucks, vendors and live music beginning at 5 p.m. Organizers scheduled a full lineup of entertainment, with opening ceremonies followed by performances from Rucker Anderson, Mike Purdue, and Kiah and Tygar leading up to the night’s fireworks show at dusk.
The celebration also included a wide range of community sponsors, vendors and civic groups, along with city departments and volunteers who helped coordinate logistics, setup and safety operations throughout the day.
Cleveland Mayor Josh Turner said the event reflected months of planning and broad community collaboration.
“Events like these don’t happen by accident. They’re made possible by dedicated people working behind the scenes. I’m grateful to our White 250 Committee, city staff, public safety, public works, volunteers and everyone who helped make the celebration a success. Seeing our community come together is what makes it special.”
Turner said the turnout reflected strong community pride and appreciation for the holiday.
The Cleveland White 250 initiative is part of a broader effort to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary through community events across White County.
